Ziggy's Fan Page

Ziggy at 3 months old
Hi, I'm Ziggy. I am a two year old American Pit Bull Terrier with green eyes and a curly tail. I am deaf, which just means I don't hear you if you talk to me. I was turned into a shelter when I was just a puppy. My foster mom came and got me and took me to live with her until I could find a permanent home. My foster mom says she loves me a lot, but she has already adopted two dogs, and she fosters other dogs too, so she wants me to be able to find my own home where I can have more time and attention. I would really like a new home with someone who will play with me and go for walks with me. My foster mom says I am very smart and would do great at agility or another dog sport. I have learned a lot of hand signs that mean all sorts of things, like sit, stay, come, down, off, drop it, and let's go. I have even learned a few tricks!

I still have a lot of puppy behaviors, like chewing and doing zoomies, and I can play a little bit rough, so even though I like kids, my foster mom says I will need a home without any children.  I am both crate trained and house trained, and never have accidents in the house.  I am used to staying in a crate at night and while my foster mom is at work because otherwise she says I can be a bit destructive.  I say I just get bored and like to rearrange the house while she is gone.  I live with both cats and other dogs in my foster home, and get along with everyone pretty well, although I do like to be the one in charge.  I am very food motivated and although I am not super-high energy, I am always ready to go for a walk.

My foster mom says I am the most entertaining dog she knows, and she has written a lot about me in her blog about being a foster mom. She says anyone who wants to adopt me should probably know what to expect, so I have linked to a few of her blog posts below.

My Favorite Activities: Chewing, Hiking, Football, Visiting Storm Drains

My Least Favorite Activities: Dressing Up

My Favorite Foods: Bananas, Coca-Cola, bird seed

HAHA I'm the first to sign my best friend's page. Ziggy and I have formed a bond like no other this week that I am visiting my family. He has become MY puppy.....lol He really is a good dog, he just gets a little carried away while playing. If you have a treat around we will stop chewing on things until he is done with the treat....just to get another (fatty...lol) I love my puppy Ziggy! I will never forget him. I would adopt him but I am only 16... To me he's an angel... I mean look at him.

Boy does he remind me of my Quizz at that age. Chewed EVERYTHING in sight. Cardboard was his favorite flavor. We had a very intense lesson on why Books were very inappropriate things to chew on no matter how tasty. Finally, I just sprayed Bitter Apple on everything I didn't want him to chew on (Including me). Finally, I found soup bones from the butcher shop, lightly baked so they didn't bleed all over the carpet, and voila happy focused chewer.

P.S. - How can you not enjoy that sweet face with a hint of devil may care in his eyes? Seriously?

Dear Ziggy,

I have to say I'm one of your biggest fans. Lots of people are working hard in Ontario to get our stupid BSL changed so that I could adopt you. But sadly our new bill 222 isn't going to be looked at until fall. I hope that you find a loving home before fall, but until then please enojy chewing and destroying. All your stories make me fall in love with the pit bull breed, and one day I hope to rescue a puppy just like you...well maybe a little more behaved.

Hugs and Kisses, maybe a chew (but no bitey-face), Erika and Blair

ps. Blair says she takes the chewing part back

I love you Ziggy! I depend on you for my daily laugh :) I've been following your mom since she took Farley from HSMO last fall. He was deaf too (Noelle probably remembers him, ha!)

ziggy is SO CUTE. i have not yet had any dogs that chew up shoes or furniture, but they all have managed to piss on a variety of rugs, beds, etc. and destroy every kind of toy and food container known to man. i've never cleaned so much in my life!

Ha Rachel. I don't think so. I think I love him. Wish I could have him but I have two of my own. Welcome once again to O'Fallon, MO.

Ziggy won me over after one walk with him. He is very ego-improving, because if you will hold a chew bone for him, nothing will distract him from you and the chew! You have his attention.
Some dogs are just waiting for the right home, and it takes a while for it to show up. Linda

Ziggy, you would fit right in at our house - we're both chewers. As a matter of fact, Riley just destroyed Mommy's TV remote again. For the THIRD time. You'd think SHE would learn!

We adore Ziggy. I know he has a lot of energy but that's what gives him charm. Though it takes the time to mature, he will grow out of it eventually.

Ziggy - I loved seeing you again today - Just because I didn't hold you like I did Sherman, does not mean that I don't love you anymore.

Its because of you that I have taken away my "I don't like pitbull" attitude. You are looking so good and grown up. I know you will find a home sooon. Sending up prayers tonight to the big guy to find you a great home.

Love,

BK

I am a part-time volunteer with All Paws. Last week, I got to spend time with Ziggy and I fell in love with him. He is a love bug. It is amazing how well he follows his hand commands. As he is still young and trying to accept that he is "special" because of being hearing impaired, he gets what I call a little "chewy". He chews on you to get your attention. He's still learning that this isn't the polite way to get one's attention. But honestly, this little boy is so cute, you quickly understand that it's just a limitation. Ziggy learns so fast, it's unbelievable. And if you haven't seen him enjoy a treat yet...you must. He closes his eyes as he chews his treats. It is the most darling thing you can imagine. It is hillarious and you can't help but fall in love with him. I Heart You Ziggy!

Ziggy, What a handsome fellow You are ! And so active and talented! I may have to learn the special care for the deaf, buddy. You seem like you would be a great addition to my brood, Count me as a fan!

I have a one and a half year old deaf pittie who looks just like Ziggy, but she's white with black spots. As I read your post on Facebook, I laughed out loud because I felt like you were describing my dog perfectly! My girl is the smartest dog I've ever met and cracks us up daily with her silly but witty antics. In fact, if you can believe it, her deafness actually comes in handy sometimes! She never ceases to amaze us, often so much though that we forget she's deaf. If you are considering adopting, please don't hesitate because he's deaf. Please consider adopting Ziggy if he's still available!
